Area Emergency Services Organizations
Our sister emergency services organization in Thurmont, Thurmont
Community Ambulance Service, Inc., provides emergency medical services (EMS)
in the Thurmont area. Many members of the Guardian Hose Company are also members
of the Thurmont Ambulance Company.
One of our mutual aide fire companies, Emmitsburg's Vigilant
Hose Company, is located approximately six miles north of Thurmont. In
addition to sharing duties in mutual aide situations, members of both the
Guardian and Vigilant Hose Companies frequently get together in social and
recreational settings.
Another of our mutual aide fire companies, Lewistown
District Volunteer Fire Department, is located south of Thurmont along
U.S. Route 15.
The Frederick County
Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association, Inc. is the umbrella group
representing common concerns and issues among the 26 independent fire and rescue
companies charged with providing fire and rescue services to Frederick County Maryland.

provides accredited training classes, meeting or exceeding national standards, to GHC
members in local settings.
The Maryland State Firemen's Association, is
the Maryland state-wide umbrella organization of emergency services providers.

The National Fire Academy, part of the
Federal Emergency Management Agency, is
located on a beautiful campus in nearby Emmitsburg, Maryland.
The National Fallen Firefighters'
Memorial, located on the grounds of the National Fire Academy, is the
setting for the Annual Memorial Service for Fallen Firefighters. Held each year on
the Sunday immediately preceding National Fire Prevention Week, the Memorial
Service is a truly moving and meaningful experience. The Guardian Hose urges
everyone, including rescue workers and private citizens alike, to visit the
National Fallen Firefighters' Memorial.
U.S. President Woodrow Wilson issued the first National Fire Prevention
Week proclamation, and since 1922, National
Fire Prevention Week has been observed on the Sunday through Saturday period
in which October 9 falls.
