On Sunday, March 3, 2002, a combination Training Exercise / House Burning was held on old Mill Road outside Rocky Ridge.
Under the leadership of Rocky Ridge Volunteer Fire Company Chief Steve Wetzel, the following fire companies participated in this exercise:

Rocky Ridge Volunteer Fire Company
Guardian Hose Company
Graceham Volunteer Fire Company
Lewistown District Volunteer Fire Department
Vigilant Hose Company
New Midway Volunteer Fire Company
Woodsboro Volunteer Fire Company
Thurmont Community Ambulance Service
Taneytown Volunteer Fire Company
Union Bridge Volunteer Fire Company

In addition to the joint efforts of many of the line officers of the above companies, assisting with the drill were three Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute Instructors: Clarence E. "Smiley" White, Judy White, and Jim Rice.

After drilling in the house, the house was allowed to burn to the ground at the request of the property owner.
