1951 proved to be an exciting year in Thurmont. The Town, having been founded in 1751, was celebrating its Bicentennial anniversary. Many special events were planned during that year.

Having signed a contract for the construction of the new fire hall in April, 1950, the fire hall construction project was completed in 1951 and a special dedication ceremony was held that summer. Maryland Governor Theodore R. McKeldin was among the dignitaries who attended the dedication ceremony.
