Dear Friends, You are cordially invited to attend our annual carnival to be held in Thurmont from July 6 through July 11, 2009, and to participate in our annual parade to be held on Thursday, July 9, 2009, rain or shine. Parade participants may start to line up at 5:00 p.m. The parade will start at 6:30 p.m. from Blue Ridge Avenue and will disband on Boundary Avenue near the carnival grounds. Parade participants should proceed to the following areas and line up as follows (see map): Most Parade Participants: Enter Westview Drive from East Main Street (by the Thurmont Police Department). Follow Westview Drive to Woodland Avenue. Turn right onto Woodland Avenue and proceed to Blue Ridge Avenue. Line up ONLY on the right hand side of the roadway and directly behind participants already in line ahead of you. Do not leave empty space in the line up and pull all the way to the curb or right side of the roadway to permit other traffic to get by. Mutual Aid Companies: (6, 13, 18, 21, 22, 26) Line up on Apples Church Rd. behind the Guardian Hose Company apparatus. Enter the line up via North Carroll Street and Apples Church Road (at NVR Building Products), not from East Main Street as this area will be congested.. Majorette and Marching Units: Enter Summit Avenue from East Main Street (at the Thurmont Middle School). Parking will be available to the rear of the school and on Summit Avenue. Once your group has arrived, proceed into the alley and assemble in the line up. Your group will be placed into the parade line up from the alley onto Blue Ridge Avenue. Dignitaries and Special Guests: Proceed to Gateway Printing on East Main Street near Apples Church Road. Reminder: You must provide your own transportation for the parade. Line up order is first come, first served. If your organization has several units and wish to go through the parade together, you MUST enter the line up area together. If you are arriving separately and need to meet, it is recommended you meet at the Thurmont Elementary School parking lot until all of your units arrive and can enter the line up area together. THERE IS NO SAVING OF SPACE OR CHANGING ORDER IN THE LINE UP. Complete the enclosed response form and bring it with you. Without a completed response form, you will not be judged and will be ineligible to receive an award. THE RESPONSE FORMS WILL BE COLLECTED FROM YOU AFTER YOU ARE LINED UP, BEFORE THE START OF THE PARADE. PLEASE KEEP YOUR RESPONSE FORM READILY AVAILABLE FOR COLLECTION ONCE YOU ARE LINED UP. Attached is a list of parade rules. Please read them carefully as violation of the rules may disqualify you from being judged and receiving an award. Also attached is a list of awards. WINNERS WILL BE ANNOUNCED FROM THE CHANCE STAND AT THE CARNIVAL GROUNDS AT 10:30 P.M. If you are interested in participating in our parade, simply complete the enclosed response form and bring it with you. No further response is necessary.
